Virginia Tech put on a show in James Franklin's debut as the Hokies routed VMI 73-3 for the program's largest margin of victory since VT beat Catholic 73-0 during the 1922 season. Franklin also had the largest margin of victory for a coach making his VT debut since Sally Miles led VT to an 86-0 victory over Roanoke College to open the 1905 season.
The chasm was clear even before kickoff with VMI being ranked 406th in the country by ESPN's SP+ rankings, falling behind schools like DIII Christopher Newport University. However, there was still plenty to learn from some standout performances and also from the first depth chart being revealed so with that said, here are my takeaways from the Hokies' 73-3 victory over VMI.
