Virginia Tech football had its largest recruiting weekend of the season last weekend for their win over North Carolina. The weekend included hosting a few committed elsewhere currently including Florida State CB commit Derek Bermudez.

Bermudez came away impressed by Virginia Tech, especially so by the atmosphere in Blacksburg.

"It was a good visit and it had a good atmosphere there," Bermudez said.

Given that it was an unofficial visit, Bermudez, and the Jacksonville area recruits that he came with, had greater flexibility with their itinerary. That showed as part of Bermudez's time was spent going to different tailgates around Blacksburg.

"We went to a tailgate met with the coaches and players then we went out to the field," Bermudez said about what he did while at VT. "Definitely enjoyed the electric atmosphere and how VT was able to finish with a big win."

Bermudez had the chance to spend some time with CBs coach Brian Mitchell and DL coach Charley Wiles, his area recruiter. Both Mitchell and Wiles made it clear that they would love to have Bermudez in Blacksburg with Mitchell specifically mentioning how his size makes him a great fit in the Hokies' system that prioritizes taller cornerbacks.

Overall, Bermudez's visit went well with the Florida State commit telling us that while he's "still open to other schools", he's also "still solid for now" with his commitment to Florida State.

The Hokies still have a few spots left in this class and with only one cornerback committed in Dorian Strong, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Hokies take a second one.

Additionally, Bermudez still is open to letting other schools make their case, and VT has a pair of potential recruiters to help in Jacksonville commits Tyree Saunders and Keonta Jenkins. Saunders, in particular, appears quite close with Bermudez and was also among the group of Jacksonville recruits to visit Virginia Tech this past weekend.

Derek Bermudez is still committed to Florida State, but Virginia Tech is ready to make a major push at trying to flip the talented Jacksonville cornerback.
