Four-Star CB Cam Johnson Commits to Virginia Tech

Defense 1

After landing a commitment from three-star DB Mansoor Delane earlier this week, Virginia Tech landed a commitment from their top remaining DB target, four-star CB Cam Johnson, as he shared on his Instagram.

Johnson chose the Hokies over an impressive offer list that included Texas A&M, Penn State, Michigan, Boston College, Tennessee, Ole Miss, West Virginia, Michigan State, Rutgers, and others. Johnson becomes the second commit from Maryland this cycle alongside Delane and the third DB commitment along with Delane and three-safety Malcolm Jones from Georgia.

Johnson has been one of Virginia Tech's top defensive targets throughout 2021 and while Boston College made a very strong push over the past few months as well, Tech did a great job closing the deal to hold off the Eagles and numerous other Power 5 programs. He took official visits only to Virginia Tech and Boston College with the Hokies hosting him on his first one at the beginning of June, and taking control of his recruitment from there.

CBs coach Ryan Smith led the charge in Johnson's recruitment and deserves tons of credit for the Hokies landing the talented recruit out of Maryland private powerhouse St Frances especially given Tech's lack of recruiting success there historically.

Tech is putting together their strongest class in the past three cycles as Johnson becomes the third aggregate four-star recruit (247, Composite, Rivals, ESPN) along with RB Ramon Brown and OL Gunner Givens. That number was four at the time of Johnson's commitment though Tech has since seen LB Xavier Simmons flip from the Hokies to Missouri.

We will have more as this story develops.
