Dylan Rivers flips from Penn State to Virginia Tech. [Credit: Harley Taylor][/caption]The Virginia Tech Hokies started off this weekend with a bang on the recruiting trail with Devon Hunter publicly committing to Virginia Tech and followed that up with a commitment yesterday from three-star athlete Bryce Watts who had decommitted from Rutgers less than a week earlier. All indications are that Virginia Tech's official visit weekend went well not only with Watts but with plenty of other recruits.
Now, Virginia Tech has made a huge bang on Sunday in what is also a rude awakening for another program that thought they had poached a top Virginia recruit.

Four-star linebacker Dylan Rivers from Stephens City, Virginia flipped his commitment from Penn State to Virginia Tech today after taking an official visit to Penn State this past weekend. To say this is an incredible recruiting job by Virginia Tech's coaching staff would be understating it as the Hokies have not stopped going after Rivers and have stolen him away from Penn State in the eleventh hour of this cycle.
Dylan Rivers is seen as a four-star recruit across the board with ESPN ranking him as the 14th best recruit in Virginia, Rivals having him 13th in the state, the 247 Sports Composite having him eighth in Virginia, and 247 Sports having him seventh in the Commonwealth. ESPN also has Rivers as the 26th best OLB, Rivals has him as the 13th best ILB, the 247 Sports Composite has him as the 15th best OLB, and 247 Sports has him as the 13th best OLB.
Rivers is a home run get for the Hokies with Bud Foster once again being a primary recruiter and reason for his commitment. Foster has made some noise down the stretch on the recruiting trail over the past few years with Tim Settle being another big time commitment that he played a critical role in getting.
Flipping a recruit from Penn State after there big breakout season to keep Rivers in-state also makes a huge statement that the Hokies have a staff that not only can win but also recruit with the best in America to protect their home state. It's been a few years since the Hokies have been able to look this strong on the recruiting trail in Virginia, but is a fantastic sign for where Justin Fuente can have this program going.
Congrats to Dylan Rivers on committing to Virginia Tech.
