The four-star recruit from the 757 made his decision to decommit from the Hokies after Virginia Tech's decision to fire Brent Pry Sunday afternoon. He does still plan to consider the Hokies though Tech's hopes of landing him will largely end up depending on who replaces Pry in Blacksburg.
Wilder's decommitment leaves the Hokies with three offensive line commitments from three-star OT Tyrell Simpson from North Carolina, three-star OL Buddy Wegdam from Northern Virginia, and three-star OL Adrian Hamilton from Washington D.C..
Wilder isn't the only Hokie commit (or previous commit) looking around as three-star DE Kamren Johnson posted on X that his recruitment is "open" while he appears to remain committed to the Hokies as of now.
Wilder's decommitment is obviously a major hit to Virginia Tech's recruiting class but it isn't a surprise given the firing of Pry. He will certainly be a priority for whoever Virginia Tech's next head coach is to try to get him back in the boat with Signing Day, with many schools certainly pursuing him now.
We will have more as this story develops.
