Virginia Tech landed their first transfer portal commitment of this cycle as Georgia State starting RT Montavious Cunningham committed to the Hokies.
Thankful for all of the opportunity, but this is home. Go Hokies 🦃 #Blessed #HokieNation @coachbrentdavis @Crook_VT @TylerBowen pic.twitter.com/oMB8cZf7Yv

Cunningham chose the Hokies over Texas Tech who he also visited during his time in the transfer portal. He also was looking at visiting Kentucky though that did not happen after his visit to VT went well, which happened from Monday to Wednesday of this week.
Cunningham was the starting right tackle this past season after starting four games as an offensive tackle in 2022. He earned a 69.0 season grade for 2023 from Pro Football Focus including 73.8 pass block grade and 66.7 run block grade. He has two years of eligibility remaining and should be able to quickly battle for a starting job.
Tech needs help on the offensive line and they've landed a quality starter from arguably the strongest Group of 5 league in the country in the Sun Belt who has well over 1,000 snaps of experience.
Cunningham is a little small for an offensive tackle at 6'3'' and 305 pounds, but has held up fairly well there. However, his best future may be at guard given his size with Cunningham telling us previously that he could play either guard or tackle for the Hokies.
There's no doubt that there will be a jump in competition but the Sun Belt may be the best league to prepare a player for the demands of Power 5 football. Regardless, it's reasonable to expect that Cunningham can immediately come in and start for the Hokies providing an upgrade at tackle or guard.
Tech isn't done in the transfer portal on the offensive line either with Texas Tech starting left tackle Monroe Mills and New Mexico starting C CJ James among the names to monitor.
