The Virginia Tech Hokies haven't gotten a commitment in a while largely due to the fact that many recruits are currently focused on their high school football seasons. However, that is starting to change as recruits see their seasons end and begin focusing more on making decisions for where they want to play their college football.
Today, the Hokies gained their first commitment in weeks with it coming from the Class of 2018.

Three-star DB Chamarri Conner from Trinity Christian in Jacksonville, Florida committed to the Hokies today becoming Virginia Tech's third commit in the Class of 2018. Conner had a strong list of offers that also included Michigan, Florida, North Carolina, Colorado, South Carolina, and others in addition to Virginia Tech.
Conner is ranked as a four-star recruit and the 159th best junior by ESPN while both Rivals and 247 Sports have him as a three-star with the 247 Sports Composite having Conner ranked 330th nationally and 247 Sports having him ranked 316th with ESPN, 247 Sports, and Rivals all having Conner as a top 30 safety.
Conner is a strong get for the Hokies especially this early from the state of Florida and while the Hokies will have plenty of work ahead to hold on to his commitment, the fact that Virginia Tech has done as much as they have to get his commitment at this point is quite impressive.
Justin Fuente and the Hokies are moving in the right direction and it seems to be making a difference on the recruiting trail.
