The first year of the Justin Fuente era went just about as well as anyone could have imagined as the Virginia Tech Hokies won the ACC Coastal division title and 10 games for the first time since 2011. The Hokies started to re-establish their dominance over the ACC Coastal that had characterized their first 8 seasons in the ACC.
Fuente's impressive first year deservingly earned him ACC Coach of the Year honors and today, the ACC Coach of the Year also received a brand new contract extension from Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech announced today that Justin Fuente has agreed to a contract extension through the 2023 season that will pay him at least $4 million in 2023 and pay him $25.45 million over the next 7 years of his contract with another $450,000 in retention bonuses that we would expect Fuente to receive at those times.. Fuente's buyout will also be $6 million for this upcoming year before dropping down to $5 million in 2018 and under $1 million after 2020.
The contract extension is a little bit of a surprise given the fact that Fuente has only been in charge for one year but after the Hokies shattered many offensive records this past season and exceeded all expectations in winning the ACC Coastal, Fuente has definitely earned a pay raise and contract extension with the Hokies being nationally relevant again in college football.
