Despite a 24-17 loss to Purdue, two of Virginia Tech’s best received recognition on Monday for their efforts in the defeat.

Linebacker Keli Lawson was named ACC linebacker of the week, while punter Peter Moore shared co-specialist of the week honors with Wake Forest kicker Matthew Dennis.

Lawson, a redshirt sophomore, showed out against the Boilermakers, registering a career high 14 tackles, including seven solo tackles, a pass break up, and a half sack.

The Stephens City, Virginia native led a Hokies defense that allowed just seven second half points. Lawson, with four solo tackles against Old Dominion in week one, has now tied his career high for solo tackles with 11, and is five total tackles shy of tying the 23 he had a year ago.

Moore on the other hand, garnered his award thanks to a stagnant Hokies offense that punted seven times, with an average of 46 yards per punt, and a long of 55. Three of the seven punts put Purdue inside their own 20 yard line.

The junior punter was named to the Ray Guy watchlist in 2022, and was an All-ACC third team selection as a freshman in 2021.
