Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry announced today that LB J.R. Walker and RB Kenji Christian are no longer with the football program. This opens 2 scholarships putting Virginia Tech at 91 scholarships currently for next season with more roster turnover coming.
Walker played in 32 games over his four seasons in Blacksburg making 2 starts this past season for the Hokies before falling down the depth chart. He had 24 tackles during his career including 18 this past season with 2 for loss plus 2 QB hurries. He has two years of eligibility remaining though it's unclear if he intends to continue playing football.
Christian did not play a snap during his two seasons at Virginia Tech after being a top 50 RB recruit in the 2021 class. He has three years of eligibility remaining. His departure was first reported by Evan Watkins of VT Scoop.
We will have more as this story develops.
