As STAR LBs/nickels coach Shawn Quinn said on Friday, the STAR linebacker position isn’t often a permanent home for a linebacker, with a move inside seeming inevitable in many cases from what Quinn has seen working with Brent Pry over the years.
“Traditionally, having worked with Brent in a number of different places, that STAR over time generally graduates into an inside guy, and then the Will a lot of the times becomes the Mike. It’s kind of like you can bring a young guy in and train him at STAR,” Quinn said.
However, plenty of rules have exceptions and in this case, the Hokies currently have an exception to that rule.
“Keonta (Jenkins)’s kind of been the exception,” Quinn said.
Yes, the Jacksonville, FL native Keonta Jenkins, who made a position move of his own back in 2022, has proven to be the exception to the rule, finding a home at STAR linebacker that has allowed him to flourish.
