The Virginia Tech Hokies have had depth issues in their frontcourt this season largely due to being without forward Kerry Blackshear. For months now, the Hokies have been trying to get Blackshear healthy enough to play this season for ACC play.
However, that won't be the case.
Virginia Tech forward Kerry Blackshear will not return this season and instead redshirt, leaving him with three years of eligibility eligibility beginning next season. The Hokies will continue to have a thin frontcourt with Zach LeDay and Khadim Sy being the only true big men.
Buzz Williams and the Hokies are taking the same approach as they did with Ahmed Hill last year by preserving a year of his eligibility with him being unable to return till too deep in the season. With Blackshear redshirting, Virginia Tech's frontcourt will have tons of eligibility left with Blackshear and Sy being sophomores next season.
