Virginia Tech has had players earn All-American honors at just about every position on offense and defense except one: tight end. When you hire someone as your TEs coach in Ty Howle who developed future NFL Draft picks Brenton Strange, Theo Johnson, and Tyler Warren in three consecutive drafts. Warren was the longest-coached and most successful of that group, going in the first round of 2025 NFL Draft after winning the John Mackey Award.
Given that reality, it shouldn't be a surprise that VT's tight end room would be a strength, especially after bringing in a former five-star recruit that Howle has already coached for years in Penn State transfer Luke Reynolds. However, Reynolds has exceeded expectations and has a serious chance to become VT's first All-American tight end this year, sooner than anyone likely would have expected.
From the eye test to the counting stats to the advanced PFF data, everything points to Reynolds being one of college football's elite tight ends.
