[Credit: Harley Taylor][/caption]Marshawn Williams has dealt with his fair share of injuries throughout his Virginia Tech football career including a torn ACL as a true freshman that forced him to redshirt and miss the 2015 season, and another knee injury that he picked up against Notre Dame this past season. Many started to wonder if Williams would be able to return from another major injury with the hope that he would be back next fall.
Unfortunate, that won't be the case.

Virginia Tech announced today that Marshawn Williams is retiring from football due to injuries, but will stay enrolled at Virginia Tech to complete his degree. The news isn't that surprising given how many injuries he's had but is definitely a major disappointment as Williams had become a fan favorite for his toughness and bruising running style.
Williams ends his collegiate football career with 719 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns for the Hokies including 475 yards and 4 touchdowns in 9 games as a freshman. Williams was one tough runner and a fighter that earned plenty of respect as someone who never gave up, and that helped him earn playing time in Justin Fuente's offense this past season even if he was behind a couple of guys like Sam Rogers and Travon McMillian.
We wish Marshawn Williams the best in his future endeavors.
