The transfer portal may not open till January 2nd for Division I football players, but there are plenty who are already declaring their intentions to enter the transfer portal. That includes Mercer IOL Tyler Murray, a 2025 All-SoCon standout guard who has 1,650 offensive snaps in his career while also still having two years of eligibility and a redshirt available.
Unsurprisingly, that should lead to Murray drawing plenty of FBS interest, with the expectation being that there will be a Power 4 market for him given the usual demand for offensive linemen with quality starting experience
Murray is also a native of Altavista, Virginia and would absolutely be interested in Virginia Tech should the Hokies choose to pursue him once the portal opens on January 2nd.
"I’d love to go to Virginia Tech. To come home and play for the Hokie fanbase is a dream come true. I been going to VT games since I was a kid. It would be a top choice for me immediately," Murray said.
So what exactly is Murray looking for in his next school as he makes the jump from FCS to FBS?
