Over the past month, 2020 four-star TE Michael Carmody has received a significant number of offers with Virginia Tech being the most recent school to offer him.
"I was pretty excited, not only because of how good their football team has been, but also because of the academics VT offers," Carmody said about his VT offer. "It was a surprise, it was really just out of nowhere when my head football coach told me."
Carmody told us that he Virginia Tech "is a school that I want to get down to and see" and that he also has plans to visit Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, and Duke at minimum this summer. He also added that he has no plans of narrowing down his recruitment anytime soon.
The Hokies have had limited contact with Carmody before offering him with TEs coach James Shibest leading the charge. However, Carmody has the versatility to play either tight end or offensive tackle at the collegiate level while Rivals
even has him listed as a defensive end.
If Carmody does play tight end in college, playing in Virginia Tech's offense would be appealing to him given how much of an emphasis the Hokies have on the passing game.
"In college, I don’t really know what position I will play, either tight end or offensive tackle. As a tight end right now, an offense that predominantly passes is very appealing," Carmody said.
Given the fact that Shibest has been in contact with Carmody the most, it appears that VT is pursuing him as a tight end.
Michael Carmody is still early in his recruitment and may receive some more major offers soon with visits scheduled for Ohio State, Penn State, and Notre Dame this summer. While those schools haven't decided whether to pursue Carmody, the Hokies have made him a top tight end target in the 2020 class with this offer.
