Neoklis Avdalas has been awarded his second ACC Rookie of the Week award this season after being named ACC Co-Player and Co-Rookie of the Week after the opening week of the season.
The Greek freshman notched his second 30-point performance of the season in a 96-74 victory against Western Carolina, putting up 30 points with a 10-17 (58%) shooting clip that included four made baskets from behind the arc. He also added three boards, two assists, two blocks, and a steal.
Later in the week, he had a 16-point effort in an 82-53 victory against Maryland Eastern Shore. This was a more well-rounded game, having seven assists, two rebounds, and three steals.
Avdalas now has two 30-point performances after scoring 33 points against Providence. This ties Duke’s star freshman Cameron Boozer for the highest number of 30-point games from ACC freshmen. He is now the ninth Hokie since Virginia Tech joined the ACC to have multiple 30-point games in one season.
Through the first 12 games, Avdalas is averaging 14.6 points per game on 44% shooting from the field and 37% for three, along with five assists, which leads the team and 3.5 rebounds per game.
The Hokies take on Elon this Saturday in Cassell Coliseum as their last non-conference game of the season this Saturday.
