James Franklin's transfer portal rebuild continues to be fruitful with tons of promising young talent, as the Hokies landed a commitment today from North Carolina redshirt freshman QB Bryce Baker.
Baker is the first quarterback to publicly commit to the Hokies and the second total given the reported expectations by national insiders that Penn State QB Ethan Grunkemeyer is heading to VT. This comes just a year after Baker was a four-star recruit in the 2025 class and was ranked among the top 12 HS quarterbacks by all four major recruiting services.
Baker redshirted this pats season for the Tar Heels and will have four years of eligibility remaining.
Baker is a great addition to Virginai Tech's quarterback room and likely would be expected to earn the backup job behind Grunkemeyer based on the current group of quarterbacks that the Hokies have. It remains to be seen if Tech will try to add a veteran quarterback with some amount of starting experience to that room for depth purposes and as additional competition with Baker for the backup job.
