During an interview with Bill Roth and Mike Burnop, new Virginia Tech head coach James Franklin mentioned that he already has eight staffers in place specifically in the recruiting, player personnel, and operations side of things. Two of those have already been reported in PSU general manager Andy Frank and PSU chief of staff Kevin Threlkel.
That list of Penn State staffers following Franklin to Blacksburg is growing as PSU recruiting coordinator for personnel Chris Mahon will also be part of Franklin's staff per multiple sources.
Mahon comes to Blacksburg after spending the past six seasons as part of Franklin's staff including the past four as Franklin's recruiting coordinator for personnel.
Mahon has already been busy at work contacting recruiting targets for Virginia Tech while also being in Blacksburg this weekend to help with the many recruits which Franklin and the Hokies hosted. It seems likely that Mahon will take on a similar role to the one he had at Penn State, especially given the fact that Franklin's support staff budget is $6 million, an amount that should allow him to bring much of his PSU recruiting and player personnel departments to Blacksburg.
We will have more as this story develops.
