When Pheldarius Payne arrived from Nebraska last summer, the 757 native was set to be an important piece at defensive end for Virginia Tech. However, an Achilles injury weeks after his arrival in Blacksburg led to his season ending before it even started.
Since then, Payne has gone through a lot of adversity with a long injury recovery and a position move to defensive tackle with the former transfer ready to make an impact on the interior. The injury recovery was particularly testing with it taking almost a year for Payne to get back to 100% following his Achilles injury.
However, that has left Payne grateful to be fully healthy with a great opportunity to get back on the field again.
