When the coaching staff initially challenged Virginia Tech's players to embrace the program's special-teams history, Brown saw an opportunity.
"I got super excited when Coach said that we got to capitalize on that unit," Brown said. "I took it upon myself. I looked myself in the mirror. Are you ready for this? And I took the challenge."
Through four games, Brown has answered it.
But his experience could become valuable to Virginia Tech beyond what he provides as a receiver or returner.
Brown has been around a winning team before. His time at Duke gave him experience inside a successful program, and through Virginia Tech's 4-0 start, he's beginning to recognize some of the same characteristics in Blacksburg.
For Brown, it starts with how players respond to each other's success.
"The most important thing with just being in a winning program and a winning team is how close the team is and how together you are, and what you're willing to do for your brother," Brown said.
