Report: UMBC's Ryan Odom Rumored to be Virginia Tech Basketball's Next Head Coach

VT Cheerleaders Clemson 1
After news broke earlier today that Seton Hall's Kevin Willard was removing his name consideration for being the next head coach at Virginia Tech (along with rumors that he wasn't that seriously in the hunt), Virginia Tech is rumored to be set to hire UMBC's Ryan Odom according to Gene Wang of the Washington Post. https://twitter.com/gene_wang/status/1114601225754955777 Odom has a 67-36 record in 3 season at UMBC while also having gone 21-10 in one season as the head coach at Lenoir-Rhyne, a Division II program. Additionally, Odom was an assistant at Virginia Tech from 2003-2010 with that being his only experience as an assistant or head coach in a major conference. Gene Wang did also add that he has had some sources denying the report, adding a greater cloud of confusion to the situation. In addition, The Key Play's Henry Skutt and Pete Gilbert of WBAL are both hearing that Odom is not set to be hired as Virginia Tech's next head coach. https://twitter.com/gene_wang/status/1114613243891343361 https://twitter.com/henryskutt/status/1114625222215335937 https://twitter.com/WBALPete/status/1114618532631928837 Stay up with The Tech Lunch Pail for the latest on the Virginia Tech basketball coaching search.
