Ahead of kickoff today, reports emerged that defensive Robert Porcher IV did not travel with the Virginia Tech football team to their season opener at Boston College.

Porcher, a redshirt sohpomore, was listed as a backup defensive tackle on the depth chart earlier this week with Porcher being expected to be the top backup given the fact that the other three listed were all true freshmen. No reason was given for Porcher's absence by Virginia Tech.
With Porcher out, the Hokies will turn to their three true freshman DTs to take on a larger role. Josh Fuga was listed as an "OR" with Porcher at one of the two DT spots and may be poised for the largest gain while Mario Kendricks and Norell Pollard may also have larger roles.
Porcher's absence means that the Hokies' new defensive tackles will be tested while starters Jarrod Hewitt and DaShawn Crawford may also see an uptick in snaps today out of necessity, making their stamina something to watch as the game progresses.
