[Credit: Harley Taylor][/caption]The Virginia Tech Hokies suffered a wakeup call earlier this week in Raleigh as they were blown out by NC State 104-78 days after upsetting Duke to open ACC play in Cassell Coliseum 89-75. While the loss was disappointing, the bigger news surrounded concerns with injuries as Khadim Sy was unable play after injuring his ankle in an afternoon shootaround while Seth Allen was sent to the locker room for a potential concussion.
Now, we've found out more on the Hokies' injury situation heading into their big road game at Florida State.
Seth Allen will be out for the Hokies today against Florida State due to the concussion protocol as reported by Jeff Goodman of ESPN. For a team that already has issues with depth, the loss is significant as the Hokies only have one true point guard that has received playing time and is healthy in Justin Robinson.
The Hokies will likely look to Robinson to play 35-40 minutes today while we may also see the Hokies bring in senior Devin Wilson now that he has him available though Wilson has barely practice with the team, and Buzz Williams may not be comfortable playing him just yet. The Hokies could also use freshman Tyrie Jackson if they need a point guard, but it seems clear that the Hokies plan to redshirt him so that seems unlikely.
The loss of Allen is significant given the Hokies' serious depth issues and the unknown status of Khadim Sy for today's matchup with Florida State. Allen hasn't had as big of scoring numbers but he also has been his most efficient in his career averaging 10.7 points and 3.5 assists per game while also shooting 55.1% from the field and 43.2% from beyond the arc.
Virginia Tech will need other guys to step up especially Justin Robinson who has proven that he can definitely rise to the occasion while also having improved a lot over the past year. Today, the Hokies will need Robinson to step up with Allen's absence and also avoid foul trouble unlike he did against NC State.
