DE Seth Dooley has decided to transfer away from Virginia Tech for his final season of college football. Dooley has completed his degree and will be able to play immediately at whatever school he ends up transferring to. Dooley had 12 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks in three seasons for Virginia Tech.
Dooley was seen as someone with a lot of promise given his size at 6'5'', but Dooley was never able to rise beyond being a backup defensive end with Houshun Gaines seeming to have the early inside track to be the top backup DE next year plus a healthy Jimmie Taylor and 2 2017 defensive ends currently committed.
Dooley will likely get a lot of interest from quality Group of 5 schools and top FCS schools with FCS champion James Madison being an intriguing possibility given the connection to Virginia Tech with JMU having a former VT assistant in Bryan Stinespring.
We wish Seth Dooley the best of luck as he leaves Virginia Tech.
Update (1/12): Andy Bitter of the Roanoke Times tweeted out that Dooley is leaving the football team and ending his football career to pursue other opportunities. Dooley has his degree and wouldn't have been more than a backup in 2017 so the move makes a lot of sense.
