College football saw its first firing of the season as Maryland decided to part ways with long-time head coach Mike Locksley amidst a 2-5 start that included a five-game losing streak which started with a 35-26 loss to Virginia Tech. With a regional P4 neighbor in Maryland now looking for a new head coach, plenty of schools including Virginia Tech will be ready to pursue their current high school commits.
Here's a look at three, including one now former commit, who VT is likely to pursue heavily in the coming weeks and months.
4* DB Kenaz Sullivan
Let's start with one recruit who the Hokies were already pursuing a flip for prior to news about Mike Locksley's dismissal: four-star DB Kenaz Sullivan.
The Northern Virginia native and consensus top 7 in-state recruit in the 2027 class was on campus this past weekend as he shared on his social media. The fact that Sullivan was more than comfortable posting photos of his visit on social media was a clear sign that his Maryland commitment was always wavering prior to Maryland's decision to dismiss Locksley.
