Virginia Tech had three quarters of greatness and one quarter of disaster which was more than enough to take down Boston College 42-21. This roller coaster was ultimately defined by Bhayshul Tuten, who had the best game of his career and the best rushing performance we've ever seen from a Virginia Tech running back with a school record 266 rushing yards and three touchdowns to drive the Hokies to their highest scoring output of the season.
So with that in mind, let's dive into my offensive takeaways from the Hokies' 21-point victory over Boston College.
1. Admiring Greatness from Bhayshul Tuten
There's not much else to say other than the fact that this was simply greatness personified by Bhayshul Tuten against Boston College.
This was arguably the best rushing performance in Virginia Tech history, as Tuten ran for a school record 266 rushing yards plus three touchdowns on only 18 carries while adding a 20-yard touchdown reception late in the first half. In the process, Tuten jumped to fourth in the country in rushing yards while cementing his status as an All-American and ACC Offensive Player of the Year contender.
The final stat line is obviously impressive for Tuten, but when you dive deeper into the numbers, his performance somehow looks even better.
Let's start with the fact that even if you take the 83 and 61 yard rushing touchdowns out of his performance, he still has 16 carries for 122 yards and a touchdown. That's an average of 7.6 yards per carry which is only surpassed this season by his 8.1 yards per carry against Rutgers. Once you add those two touchdowns back in, you get the final 14.8 yards per carry average. That a level of rushing efficiency that seemed impossible outside of NCAA Football 25 prior to Thursday night, but Tuten showed is clearly possible.
