Virginia Tech landed a late-blooming athlete out of Florida today as a last minute 2022 addition before National Signing Day as three-star ATH Devin Alves committed to the Hokies.

Alves is a two-way athlete who could end up playing either defensive back or wide receiver at the collegiate level though Alves tagging mostly defensive coaches on his tweet seems to suggests that defense is likely where he starts out at.
A talented athlete like Alves who has strong numbers flying this under-the-radar is rare these days especially with National Signing Day just days away with the only comparison in the past few cycles for VT that I can think of being Dallan Wright who had big numbers but very little interest till January of his senior year.
Surprisingly, Alves is the Hokies' lone 2022 commit from the state of Florida, a state where the Hokies have traditionally had more success poaching a few talented players out of though not in this cycle for previous head coach Justin Fuente. However, Brent Pry is hoping that Alves is like other under-the-radar Florida additions of the past like Luther Maddy and Dadi Nicolas in terms of his success in Blacksburg.
