After closing out strong last cycle in East Tennessee, Virginia Tech is looking to add some more East Tennessee talent in their 2024 class recently extending an offer to three-star CB Nigel Maynard out of Smyrna, TN.

He had this to say about his reaction to receiving a Virginia Tech offer.
"I was very excited, I have a close friend that just committed to VT," Maynard said.
That close friend is 2023 four-star WR signee Chance Fitzgerald with Maynard adding this when asked what his relationship with Fitzgerald is like.
"We work out together and we used to go on college camps and visits together," Maynard said.
If Tech gets Maynard on an official visit after Fitzgerald has enrolled at VT, it seems like a decent possibility that Fitzgerald could be his player host for it.
Maynard received the offer from defensive coordinator Chris Marve over a phone call that Maynard said was a "great conversation" overall.
So how does this offer impact his recruitment and where VT stands in it?
"It impacts it a lot, I’m going to have to go up there and check it out. But yes, I like and respect their program," Maynard said.
Looking ahead, Maynard told us that he is visiting Auburn on January 28th while he is also looking at taking visits to Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, and more.
Outside of the Commonwealth of Virginia, East and Central Tennessee continues to emerge as one of Virginia Tech's higher recruiting priorities within their footprint with Tech looking to continue building on a strong 2023 East TN class with 2024 standouts like Nigel Maynard.
