[Credit: @Zion_LifeGoesOn][/caption]The Virginia Tech Hokies had a disappointing National Signing Day losing Tahj Capehart and not adding a single commit on the first Wednesday of February. However, they knew that they still had one more top target to go with Zion DeBose announcing two days after National Signing Day and deciding between Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Missouri, and Illinois.
Today, the Hokies got some good news to end the 2017 recruiting cycle.
Three-star DE Zion DeBose committed to Virginia Tech today over his other finalists Pittsburgh, Missouri, and Illinois. DeBose has a solid offer list that not only included those four schools but also included North Carolina, Duke, NC State, Purdue, Rutgers, Kansas, Western Michigan, East Carolina, Cincinnati, Georgia Southern, and Appalachian State who has was committed to till October with his recruitment blowing up after his senior season.
DeBose is another strong pickup from the state of North Carolina for the Hokies with DeBose being ranked 14th in North Carolina by ESPN, 24th by Rivals, and 28th by both 247 Sports and the 247 Sports Composite. DeBose is also ranked as the 57th best DE by ESPN, 42nd best weakside DE by Rivals, 49th best weakside DE by the 247 Sports Composite, and 47th best weakside DE by 247 Sports.
Charley Wiles was the primary recruiter for Zion DeBose and has done a tremendous job closing the deal for DeBose after being one of the last to offer the three-star DE in late December while the Hokies clearly had a home run official visit and took advantage of being the last official visit to seal the deal with a DE that became a top target for the Hokies in the final month.
Congrats to Zion DeBose on his commitment to Virginia Tech.
