Three-Star DT Malachi Madison Commits to Virginia Tech

Defense 1

Virginia Tech made an in-state splash on the recruiting trail landing a commitment from three-star DT Malachi Madison, beating out a multitude of Power 5 schools in the process.

Madison chose the Hokies over Mississippi State and UCF, who both had hats on his table, plus offers from Penn State, Pittsburgh, Iowa State, Colorado, Minnesota, NC State, West Virginia, East Carolina, Coastal Carolina, and numerous others.

Madison is the eighth in-state commit for the Hokies this cycle and the fifth on the defensive line with all 5 DL commits being from Virginia including fellow Richmond area standouts Rashaud Pernell and D'Andre Martin.

There's no doubt that Tech has put a greater priority on the commonwealth of Virginia over recent recruiting cycles and especially this one with the Hokies having lots of success especially in Richmond with Madison joining Pernell, Martin, and four-star RB Ramon Brown.

Locking down the Richmond area once again has been a clear priority and something that Tech has had loads of success with. Ryan Smith has definitely played a big role in the in-state resurgence while Darryl Tapp followed by J.C. Price also have boosted that from the defensive line coaching and recruiting perspective.

Tech's depth on the defensive line has been a point of concern throughout this season and a priority on the recruiting trail this offseason with the Hokies achieving their goals of adding lots of defensive line line especially tackle with Tech having 3-4 potential DTs committed.

With Madison on board, expect Tech to focus fully of finding a defensive end to add in to this class though that may come from the JUCO or transfer portal ranks at this point.
