Virginia Tech already has a large defensive line class in the 2027 cycle, but the Hokies did not have an offensive line commit till today when the Hokies gained a commitment from three-star OL Kaden Buchanan out of Watertown, TN.
The 6'5'', 330-pound Buchanan chose the Hokies over fellow finalists NC State and Kentucky plus other offers from Indiana, Georgia Tech, Missouri, West Virginia, North Carolina, Colorado, Maryland, Cincinnati, and others. Buchanan is both the first offensive line commitment and the first commitment from Tennessee for the Hokies this cycle.
Buchanan is a strong addition for the Hokies who is rated as a four-star recruit by 247 Sports but as a high three-star recruit by all other recruiting rankings. 247 Sports and ESPN both rank Buchanan among the top 20 interior offensive line recruits in the 2027 class.
247 Sports now ranks Virginia Tech's class 14th overall while Rivals ranks the Hokies 20th as James Franklin and his staff continue to assemble what could be one of the strongest classes in VT history.
This is a very good recruiting victory for Matt Moore and a great start to VT's 2027 offensive line class ahead of a busy recruiting season. VT is far from done on the interior of the offensive line with three-star recruits Reed Gerken and Ronald Moore set to be on campus this weekend.
