The Virginia Tech Hokies have been fairly quiet on the recruiting trail recently outside of gaining a commitment from three-star DL Joe Kane right before the Spring Game. However, there hadn't been talk of any Hokie commit potentially decommitting but that changed this evening.

Three-star QB/ATH DeJuan Ellis decommitted from Virginia Tech this evening after having committed last August. According to Ellis, the Hokies are still a contender though Virginia Tech's hopes may heavily depend on whether Ellis wants to be the only QB commit in a class or if he is comfortable being a part of a class as either an athlete or as not the only QB with the latter giving the Hokies more of a shot.
DeJuan Ellis is rated as a four-star athlete by ESPN and three-star by Rivals, 247 Sports, and the 247 Sports Composite with 247 Sports, ESPN, and the 247 Sports Composite all having Ellis as a top 30 athlete and top 12 recruit in Maryland. Ellis doesn't currently have a long offer list though Maryland likely will become a serious player and his offer list may grow some with Ellis decommitting today.
