Three-Star WR LJ Booker Commits to Virginia Tech

Lamar Booker Jr 2022 VT Visit

Virginia Tech made a last minute addition to their 2024 high school recruiting class as they landed a commitment from three-star WR LJ Booker out of Richmond, VA.

Booker is the third major in-state WR joining the Hokies in the 2024 recruiting cycle along with four-star WRs Keylen Adams and Chanz Wiggins. He ranks as a top 30 recruit in the Commonwealth of Virginia for 247 Sports and ESPN.

There were rumors on social media that this a preferred walk-on commitment, which Booker has confirmed to us.

He had this to say about why he chose the Hokies.

"They just felt like home. Everyone I know on staff and on the team, and just how long they’ve been recruiting me through the ups and the downs," Booker said.

Booker's recruitment went very quiet for a while as he seemed to be farther down the board for many including Virginia Tech. Regardless, Booker has shown plenty of potential and is a solid addition for the Hokies to add to their 2024 class. This commitment feels similar to some ways to when Kaleb Smith had a few acceptable scholarship offers still including Wake Forest, but chose to join Virginia Tech as a preferred walk-on.

WRs coach Fontel Mines continues to show why he's one of the best recruiters on the East Coast doing great work in Virginia this cycle in landing three of the best available WR prospects. To land Booker a preferred walk-on is even more impressive and shows the trust that Booker clearly has in Mines and VT's staff as a whole to develop him, along with trust in his own ability to earn a scholarship at VT.

We will have more as this story develops.
