Virginia Tech's 2024 recruiting class had some impressive offensive recruits who had tremendous high school pedigrees from a VHSL record holder at wide receiver to a running back who ran for over 2,200 yards each of his final two HS seasons and averaged over 13 yards per carry for his high school career, and that's before you add in another four-star WR.
Safe to say, those type of pedigrees brought lots of buzz and intrigue.
However, none of those three have been able to break through in a major way yet for a variety of reasons and are now entering a spring with plenty of opportunity but also plenty to prove.
Let's start with Tyler Mason, the scholarship running back who seems lost in the shuffle now.
The North Carolina native has shown a couple flashes of why he was so dominant for Mount Airy HS, but has generally struggled to find the field in a loaded RB room headlined by Bhayshul Tuten in 2024 and Marcellous Hawkins in 2025.
