The redshirt sophomore played in 24 games the past two years, primarily on special teams. However, Wimbush was never ever able to break through on Tech’s tight end depth chart and will now look for a fresh start elsewhere. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
In high school, he was a three-star recruit who played quarterback and tight end. In his senior season, he caught 17 passes for 338 yards with three touchdowns.
Wimbush was the most recent scholarship tight end to sign with Virginia Tech until the Hokies signed four-star TE Pierce Petersohn this cycle. Isaiah Pina is another verbally committed tight end who plans to sign in February.
