The Virginia Tech Hokies have plenty of stars returning this fall as shown in part by how the Hokies had a trio of players named to the Preseason All-ACC Team in Cam Phillips, Wyatt Teller, and Tremaine Edmunds.
As the season approaches, major publications are beginning to release their Preseason All-American teams with one Hokie being named a Second Team Preseason All-American by Sports Illustrated.
Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds was named a Preseason Second Team All-American by Sports Illustrated today. This is the most prestigious honor yet for the junior linebacker and may not be the only Preseason All-American honor Edmunds receives.
In his first year as a starter, Edmunds shined for the Hokies with 106 tackles, 18.5 total tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, 1 interception, 3 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery while starting all 14 games and earning unanimous Second Team All-ACC honors.
Edmunds has the potential to go down as one of the greatest Virginia Tech linebackers of all-time as an incredible athlete with tremendous size at 6'5'' and 250 pounds along with a good football IQ. These skills also make him one of the top returning linebackers in the ACC and helped him earn Preseason All-ACC honors.
Edmunds' unique blend of size, athleticism, and talent will definitely catch the radar of every NFL scout this upcoming season and could mean that this will be his last season in Blacksburg especially with the Danville, VA native having the potential to be a first round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Congrats to Tremaine Edmunds on receiving this prestigious preseason honor.
