With Virginia Tech showing interest in transfers, speculation began circulating about the Hokies having someone transferring away. Today, news broke that Tyrie Jackson is leaving Virginia Tech.
Tyrie Jackson will be transferring to JUCO powerhouse Northwest Florida State. Jackson averaged 3 points, 1.5 rebounds, 0.4 assists, and 0.3 steals in 7.2 minutes per game.
Jackson's departure opens up a scholarship spot for a transfer like Rice's Malik Osborne. Another possibility is 2019 four-star SG Kevin McCullar who intends to enroll next spring and would require a scholarship.
Looking ahead to next season, Jackson's departure shouldn't hurt too much given the return of Ty Outlaw and addition of Landers Nolley.
However, the departure of Jackson decreases the amount of returning guards VT will have for the 2019-2020 season with Justin Robinson, Ahmed Hill, and Ty Outlaw all graduating. While a grad transfer may help the most next season, finding a transfer with more than one year of eligibility or a 2018 recruit would be best for VT in the long run.
We wish Tyrie Jackson the best in his future endeavors.
