Virginia Tech Among Power 5 Programs Pursuing App State Freshman All-American C Troy Everett

Cheerleaders 1 VT Miami 2022 HT

Adding 1-2 offensive linemen is at the top of Virginia Tech's spring transfer portal wish list with the Hokies being the first to offer Appalachian State C transfer Troy Everett this weekend.

Everett was the starting center for much of last season at App State and earned Freshman All-American Second Team honors from The Athletic this past season.

The Hokies were the first to offer Everett with fellow Power 5 programs Oklahoma, Missouri, Louisville, Maryland, and Illinois offering as well along with in-state G5 programs Liberty, JMU, and ODU.

The demand shouldn't come as a surprise given Everett's emergence at App State this past season as a redshirt freshman along with his significant upside given that he still has three years of eligibility.

Everett was heavily recruited by the previous Virginia Tech coaching staff and is from Botetourt County, VA less than an hour from Blacksburg. There should be plenty of familiarity with VT and Blacksburg even if it was with the previous staff.

The biggest thing for the Hokies will be getting him around the staff to build those relationships from OL coach Ron Crook to head coach Brent Pry.

It's easy to envision Everett sliding at least into the competition for the third starting interior OL spot along with Jesse Hanson, a former HS teammate of his, and Bob Schick. Kaden Moore will be starting regardless though Everett being a more natural center could lead to Moore shifting back to guard on the right side of the OL with Kaden's younger brother Braelin Moore locked in at left guard.

Having the Moore brothers with Everett in the center could also be a very good interior OL for the Hokies with lots of upside to build around for the next two years.

So what is Everett looking for in his next school?

"I am looking for a chance to compete in a place with a great culture and hard working guys. Also, a place that can help me achieve my goal of getting to the league and a great degree," Everett said.

Keep an eye on Troy Everett who is one of the best available interior offensive linemen in the transfer portal and a top target for Virginia Tech.
