Three-star CB Deuce Walker out of Salisbury, NC has emerged as one of the better cornerbacks in the Mid-Atlantic with a solid group of offers that includes Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Duke, and Maryland.
Out of that offer list, Walker has a few schools currently standing out for him with the Hokies in a good position.
Walker told us that Virginia Tech is among the four schools currently standing out for him along with Duke, Coastal Carolina, and Old Dominion. He had this to say about why the Hokies are currently standing out for him.
"VT's whole coaching staff are just great people to be around and make me very comfortable being around and talking to them. With a great staff, they can steer their players into the right direction for the future to not just win football games, but to be players," Walker said.
Tech is also mentioned as one of the schools recruiting Walker the hardest along with Coastal Carolina. Leading the charge is CBs coach Derek Jones with Walker having this to say about his relationship with Jones.
"Our relationship is great! Feels like I’ve known him for a long time and our bond just clicked from the first time we talked," Walker said.
Looking ahead, Walker told us that he is talking with Virginia Tech about setting up a June official visit to Blacksburg while he is taking an unofficial visit to JMU next weekend. Additionally, Walker is hoping to make his decision sometime in either July or August.
That sets the stage for his summer official visits to play a big role in his decision. Walker had this to say about what he's hoping to see on his official visits.
"Great environment, great relationship with the staff, and just feeling like home," Walker said.
Virginia Tech is a clear frontrunner at the moment for three-star CB Deuce Walker with the next step being to formalize an official visit to Blacksburg.
