Virginia Tech CB Armani Chatman Enters the Transfer Portal

Armani Chatman 1 VT Miami 2022 HT

Virginia Tech CB Armani Chatman announced today that he has entered the transfer portal and will play his free COVID year of college football elsewhere.

Chatman is the fourth transfer portal entry or other departure for the Hokies to date this offseason along with CB DJ Harvey, DE Mattheus Carroll, and DT Desmond Mamudi. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Chatman played in 49 games during his five seasons at Virginia Tech starting 25 games. He had 89 tackles including 4 for loss with 1 sack plus 2 interceptions and 20 pass breakups. During the 2022 season specifically, Chatman had 22 tackles including 1 for loss with an interception and 5 pass breakups while starting 11 games.

This is another loss for a cornerback room that was one of the deepest position groups on this roster. Chatman seemed poised for a battle with standout freshman Mansoor Delane for the second cornerback starting job opposite Dorian Strong though Delane definitely was poised to be the favorite after an impressive 2022 season where he came up just short in the ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.

We will have more as this story develops.
