Virginia Tech redshirt freshman cornerback Jonathan Pennix has announced that he will enter the transfer portal.

Pennix, one of the younger players to transfer out of Blacksburg this week, only saw game action for the first time this past season after taking a redshirt year during the 2023 season. During this seaosn, Pennix appeared in 10 games primarily on special teams while recorded two solo tackles split between the Boston College and Virginia games.

He will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next school.

While Pennix was briefly on the two-deep last season as the backup nickel cornerback, he was never able to gain transition in the Hokies' cornerback room. He not only fell behind fellow 2023 signees in Dante Lovett and Thomas Williams but also true freshman Joshua Clarke at minimum.

Pennix's departure is not a surprise and does not change the reality that the Hokies are looking at bringing in a more experienced cornerback to pair with Lovett, Williams, and Clarke.

Marshall's Jacobie Henderson and Utah Tech's Scooter Jackson are two early names to watch who both have received offers and publicly reported them. There are likely other targets who have received offers but have declined to publicly report as is often the case in the transfer portal.
