Delane leaves Virginia Tech after three highly successful seasons with the Hokies during which he had 146 tackles including seven tackles for loss plus six interceptions, 16 pass breakups, and four forced fumbles. 2024 was the best season of Delane’s career to date as he earned All-ACC Third Team honors after having 54 tackles including one for loss plus four interceptions, seven pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.
Delane will have one year of eligibility remaining and instantly becomes one of the best available players in the portal regardless of position. It seems likely that all of college football’s elite will get involved, with Ohio State seeming like a team to watch given that his brother, four-star DB Faheem Delane, signed with the Buckeyes as part of their 2025 class.
Mansoor Delane’s loss isn’t a surprise, but it seemed safe to expect that he likely would head off to the NFL Draft. Instead, Delane is choosing to head elsewhere in college football which does bring a minor disappointment for the Hokies given that there clearly was more of a chance to retain Delane than thought. Of course, it wouldn’t be surprising if Delane still ended up declaring for the NFL Draft.
With Delane heading elsewhere, this doesn’t change the math for the Hokies even if the destination isn’t what was expected. Dante Lovett is expected to take on one of the starting cornerbacks while the Hokies look to bring in a portal cornerback to compete with Thomas Williams, Joshua Clarke, and others for the second starting cornerbacks job.
The Hokies have already sent offers that have been made public to Marshall All-Sun Belt CB Jacobie Henderson and Utah Tech CB Scooter Jackson while Coastal Carolina All-Sun Belt CB Matthew McDoom is also looking to visit VT and clearly seems to have an offer even if he isn’t publicly reporting his offers.
