Virginia Tech DE Mattheus Carroll Will Enter the Transfer Portal

Helmet 1

Virginia Tech DE Mattheus Carroll announced that he will be entering the transfer portal on Monday.

Carroll is the second Hokie to announce his intentions to enter the portal joining cornerback DJ Harvey. He will have three season of eligibility remaining at his next school.

Carroll's departure shouldn't come as a surprise as he was unable to find traction in 2 seasons with the Hokies, falling behind true freshman like Kyree Moyston and Keyshawn Burgos on the depth chart. Carroll is an intriguing prospect and should likely receive plenty of G5 and FCS interest.

For the Hokies, this simply opens up another spot for fitting in their recruiting class and a transfer portal class that seems likely to at least be 6-10 players. Currently, Tech is at 89 scholarships approximately including all players who have an extra COVID year but only the 19 current HS commits and no other additions.

So as you can see, it's safe to expect a lot more transfer movement with the portal opening for all FBS players on Monday.

We will have more as this story develops.
