Check out the latest Virginia Tech football recruiting notes including updates on a top offensive line target and a 757 recruit to keep an eye on.

3* OT Canon Boone

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding three-star OT Canon Boone and whether he may be close to making a decision.

A source has told us that Boone is indeed close to making a decision with the potential of it coming as soon as today and the latest being this Sunday. If that does indeed prove to be true, it's very likely that he would be choosing Virginia Tech with my predicition also being with the Hokies.

Similar to Da'Wain Lofton, Mississippi State seemed like the slight favorite for a while, but the Hokies have clearly pushed hard and have surpassed the Bulldogs, positioning themselves well to land Boone.

With Danijel Miletic and Bryce Goodner already committed, the Hokies need a couple of high school offensive tackles to round out this class and Boone gives them one. He also brings some potential versatility with his size that could allow him to slide inside with it being well known that Vance Vice likes having versatile offensive linemen.

Virginia Tech's spot recruiting in Texas has lived on this cycle after the decommitments of Dematrius Davis and Latrell Neville a few months ago with Boone likely to join Lofton and put Tech on pace to sign at least 4 recruits from Texas over the course of the 2020 and 2021 recruiting cycles.

CB Caymen Mills

Virginia Tech has shown interest in trying to land another cornerback with the Hokies in hot pursuit of four-star CB Markevious Brown and three-star CB Maxwell Hairston along with showing interest in Zi'Kef Johnson. However, there's another in-state cornerback name to keep an eye on.

Virginia Beach CB Caymen Mills told us that he has been receiving interest from Virginia Tech recently. This comes as Mills' recruitment has taken off landing offers from Tennessee, Pittsburgh, and Hawaii recently. He is also receiving interest from a multitude of schools beyond just VT including South Carolina, Boston College, Virginia, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, and multiple G5 and FCS programs.

Mills did tell us that Tech's reputation for developing talented defensive backs definitely appeals him specifically mentioning Virginia Beach standout Armani Chatman who is seen as the favorite to replace Caleb Farley this fall.

Mills is definitely a name to keep an eye on as a potential offer down the road though current numbers and their pursuit of guys like Markevious Brown may slow things down for the time being.

2022 4* WR Kevin Thomas

2022 and 2023 offers are continuing to go out from Virginia Tech coaches even as camp opportunities have been limited this summer and nonexistent this past spring. One of those offers recently was extended to 2022 four-star WR Kevin Thomas

Thomas told us that he was "very excited" to receive the offer after a call from his coach to set up the call with WRs coach Jafar Williams where he was offered woke him up. Unsurprisingly, Thomas was "wide awake" after receiving an offer from the Hokies.

Thomas is definitely an intriguing prospect who has great size at 6'3'' while also listing on his Twitter that he is a "Track & Field All-American." That combination is more than enough to get any coach excited about his potential with Thomas' offer list reflecting that, including schools like VT, Florida, Oregon, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Nebraska, Arizona State, West Virginia, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and more.

Thomas isn't also an out-of-the-blue offer as WRs coach Jafar Williams has been following him on Twitter for a little bit and clearly monitoring his development.

Keep an eye on Kevin Thomas as a potential top WR target for the Hokies in the 2022 class.
