After Joe Bamisile surprised many entering the transfer portal earlier this week, Virginia Tech received a major surprise today with sophomore guard Jalen Cone announcing that he will also be entering the transfer portal.

This comes after Cone averaged 9.2 points in 19.9 minutes per game while shooting 34.9% from three-point range down from his breakout freshman season where he shot 45.7% from three. Injuries likely affected that some with an ankle injury causing him to miss the final few games for the Hokies.
Cone will have three years of eligibility remaining and will certainly be a popular player given his ability as a three-point shooting specialist who can be a spark plug off the bench.
With Cone joining Bamisile in the transfer portal, it would be surprising if Virginia Tech didn't try to land at least one younger guard whether that's a high school recruit or someone with four years of eligibility remaining as Bamisile does. A veteran wing that can bring more size at the 3 also seems like a good fit for one of the two open spots t this point in time.
We will have more as this story develops.
