Blackshear redshirt this past season after playing four games with only 88 yards on 29 carries, but 29 receptions for 310 yards and 2 touchdowns during those 4 games. In 2018, Blackshear earned All-Big 10 Honorable Mention honors with 586 rushing yards, 3 touchdowns, and 4.1 yards per carry plus 44 receptions for 367 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. Blackshear has also been used as a kick returner returning 35 kickoffs in 2017 and 2018.
According to Brian Dohn of 247 Sports, Blackshear will need a waiver from the NCAA to play immediately, something that Hokie fans know well is an unpredictable, inconsistent mess of a process.
What Blackshear brings to the table is a lot of versatility which should fit Tech's offense well. It's easy to imagine the Hokies using Blackshear both at running back and in the slot in a variety of ways including jet sweeps and screens.
We will have more as this story develops.
