Virginia Tech LB Tavorian Copeland has entered the transfer portal according to reports.

Copeland is the fifth Hokie to enter the transfer portal so far joining OL Gabe Arena, QB Dylan Wittke, RB Tralon Mitchell, and DB Antonio Cotman Jr. He has four years of eligibility remaining.

Copeland was never able to gain any traction to climb up the depth chart during his brief time in Blacksburg while being a little undersized for a traditional linebacker spot at 192 pounds. It is also fascinating that he is the fifth 2023 signee to enter the portal, possibly showing another shift in the portal era on how players may have less time to prove they can develop into quality contributors before hard conversations start to happen.

With Copeland’s departure, Virginia Tech is now down to 82 scholarships from our accounting, giving them at least three spots to work with. You can find out more on what needs the Hokies may look to address here.
