Virginia Tech Makes the Top 8 for 2024 Four-Star QB Michael Van Buren

Michael Van Buren 1 Jan 22 2022 Junior Day

Michael Van Buren has emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2024 class with his average rating easily being four stars while ESPN rates him as a five-star recruit. The talented QB from Baltimore powerhouse St Frances Academy is undoubtedly one of the top overall targets for Virginia Tech in the 2024 class.

Recently, he released his top 8 and the Hokies made the cut.

Virginia Tech was joined by Penn State, Oklahoma, Miami, Oregon, Wisconsin, Maryland, and Cincinnati in the top 8 for Van Buren. The offers to miss the cut for him were Alabama, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Arizona, and Temple.

One big positive for VT is the fact that Van Buren has visited Blacksburg before since the new staff arrived during a visit this past January in one of Brent Pry's first big recruiting weekends. Getting him on campus again will be critical but it is an absolute plus that the Hokies have at least hosted him once with the new staff.

Penn State may be the closest thing to an early favorite in this recruitment as per On3, the Nittany Lions are the only school to have hosted Van Buren on multiple visits.

Now it is hard to deny the potential impact of NIL when you're talking about elite QBs like Van Buren who have earned that playing well at the most premium position in football. Virginia Tech's NIL efforts continue to make strides especially with the emergence of The Hokie Way that is making a push to raise $400k just in December purely from a $200k match fundraising campaign.

The Hokies are in the hunt for elite 2024 QB Michael Van Buren early on but will need to get him back on campus to remain a contender for him.
