D.J. Harvey isn't the only West Coast prospect that Virginia Tech is heavily pursuing in the 2021 class with the Hokies also showing lots of interest in three-star OT William Reed. Their interest is paying off with the Hokies making Reed's top 10 earlier this week.

The Hokies were joined by Michigan, Michigan State, Colorado, California, Utah, Duke, Kansas, Princeton, and Yale in an interesting group full of elite academic insitutions and high end college football programs.
Reed had this to say about why the Hokies made the cut.
"Love the energy there, and Coach (Beau) Davidson and Coach (Vance) Vice are awesome! Never seen a more intense O-Line coach before games. I was there for the North Carolina 6 OT game, and it was nuts. The fans are incredible," Reed said.
Additionally, William Reed told us that VT is "for sure" among the schools recruiting him the hardest along with Michigan, Colorado, California, and a couple Ivy League schools. That is likely due to how the Hokies have been in contact with Reed "every week" led by offensive line coach Vance Vice and assistant Beau Davidson.
Reed has built quite the bond with his potential collegiate offensive line coach should he choose VT as the Sammamish, WA recruit told us.
"It's really strong. I love his energy and passion for the game. Great man!" Reed said about his relationship with Vance Vice.
Looking ahead, Reed does have an idea of whe he would like to make a decision, but hopes to take some more visits in person before making his decision.
"Not really yet. I need to get to one or more schools as soon as they open up and then hopefully make a decision in late summer or fall," Reed said about whether he has a timeline for making a decision.
While most of the attention on VT's West Coast recruiting has been on California and especially CB D.J. Harvey (along with lots of offers in the Los Angeles area), the Hokies have also shown lots of interest in recruits from the state of Washington like Reed and 2022 RB Djouvensky Schlenbaker. It also appears that Reed is one of VT's top offensive tackle targets alongside four-star OT Diego Pounds and three-star OT Kimo Makaneole with borderline five-star Tristan Leigh being an overall top of the board target.
The Hokies are looking all over the country for talent this cycle with Tech being right in the hunt for three-star OT William Reed.
